Whenever a significant prize-giving event nears, you'll find a demand to include of new categories to acknowledge underappreciated efforts and fill the spirits of followers with niche passions.
A fellow writer has already made advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. So would tabletop games, representing someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance for pushing forward just as with other dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification supporting my request stands as crucial and significant. The demand is this: We need a category for puzzle games.
The Genre Classification Challenge
Classifying creative works defies precise measurement; opinions vary greatly, and inevitably start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. This explains why cinema institutions avoid this approach. Yet it remains an unavoidable compromise for the industry of gaming, showing incredible range they hardly constitute as a single art form.
For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to be recognized, and for games of all stripes to have a chance for representation, specific award classifications remain vital.
Current Gaming Award Categories
Leading game ceremonies offer these classifications covering Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these six categories effectively encompass a lot of ground, and you can find room accommodating various experiences.
Not so for brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Consider three of recent excellent titles, each quite distinct: building puzzles of one title, the pulse-pounding block-matching from another release, engaging interpersonal challenges of a third title. What category would fit them within current classifications? Unfortunately, nowhere.
The Representation Problem
Many instances occur of brilliant puzzle games launched regularly without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, unless they happen to qualify classification types such as Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, or the intensely contested Indie races.
- A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated for anything during that awards season
- A different innovative game was excluded that year

- Just some logic titles scraped into niche award types
Value of Brain-Teasers
These are often compact experiences, yet the craft in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Well-known matching games rank among most popular titles worldwide maintaining this status for an extended period.
The legendary block-stacking game competes with well-known building titles competing to become most purchased experience; it’s also in the running for best game of all time. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation with almost every other genre.
The Solution and Justification
Logic titles wouldn't face that issue. You could fill five nominees engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — perhaps, with difficulty, since numerous excellent numerous deserving experiences.
To emphasize again, these are games that otherwise have no home in important events. Brain-teaser creators function at the challenging frontier interactive creation, developing some of the purest expressions within interactive entertainment. Similar to movie stunt professionals, they merit acknowledgment. Let’s not keep them waiting 35 years.
